Apteco becomes a friend of Stratford Thunderbirds Netball Club
Posted: 28 Jul 2020
Apteco is proud to announce that it has recently become a “Friend of Thunderbirds”.
Founded in 2015, Stratford Thunderbirds, now has more than 230 players, both juniors and seniors, reflecting the growing popularity of the game nationally. Hundreds of local girls from a number of schools travel the length and breadth of the country, meeting and bonding with each other, keeping fit, growing in confidence and achieving great things.
Club Sponsorship Manager Martin Phillis remarked “It is wonderful to have the backing of another great local business. We really appreciate their support, which will help towards the costs of additional training kit needed due to the Government’s rules about sharing equipment.”
Thunderbirds has an extensive band of willing volunteers including Team Managers and a committee, working within budgets and strict statutory regulations, to keep the busy netball schedule on track. The funding provided by sponsors helps to continue the development of the club and keeps it affordable for members’ families.
Apteco’s Sarah Liu stated that “Apteco is always happy to support the sports clubs that its employees and their families are involved with. When training resumes, following the COVID-19 lockdown, we appreciate that costs will rise to ensure the girls are in a safe environment and following the social distancing guidelines. I’m pleased to nominate Thunderbirds in my employer’s sponsorship list at this difficult time. Many of my colleagues have young children and, I believe, the existence of a club like Thunderbirds is very important as an inspiration for the younger generation.”
Stratford Thunderbirds teams play in leagues in Stratford Upon Avon, Redditch, Walsall and Worcestershire. The elite junior players ended 2019 as respective U14 and U16 champions of the Warwickshire Cup and will represent the county in the West Midlands Regionals in 2020. The club aims to develop netball skills, and a number of the players also represent Franchise and County Academies. But they also have plenty of girls who just want to play for fun!
